Gabriels Powerline Trail

Accessed along Route 86 between Saranac Lake and Paul Smith’s, this snowmobile trail in the winter becomes an easy walking path during the warm months. Much of the habitat is coniferous and birders can find boreal specialties like Gray Jay and Black-backed Woodpecker as a result. The brushy margins of the trail offer breeding habitat for a variety of species, but they may be best during migration – particularly fall migration – when an array of warblers and other birds pass through the area. Birders can find any species which migrates through the area including Nashville Warbler, Cape May Warbler, Tennessee Warbler, and Northern Parula.
