Mission Statement
The Malone Chamber of Commerce is a membership based organization that promotes and advances the commercial, recreational, civic and cultural interests of the North Country.

Remember to shop and dine local!

North Country Community College (NCCC) students love our community and enjoy shopping, dining and utilizing services of local businesses. You’re your support, we’d like to encourage them to continue directing their purchases to area businesses.
In preparation for the upcoming academic year, NCCC would like to invite you to partner with the college and other establishments by offering students a discount of your choosing when a student presents their current NCCC student ID. As a community partner, the Office of Campus and Student Life will include the business name in a special directory and promote the discount via a publication, email and Facebook. Electronic marketing will include a hyperlink to your establishment. We see this opportunity as a win-win for all.
Please feel free to email me at bkarp@nccc.edu with your information.
Thank you for your consideration and thank you for your support.

Paul Smiths VIC Butterfly House Opening
The Paul Smiths VIC Native Species Butterfly House, featuring butterflies and moths in all stages of development, is opening on 15 June 2013. The Butterfly House, which is adjacent to the VIC building, is open from 10 AM to 4 PM, seven days a week throughout the summer. Admission to the VIC Butterfly House is free.
Visitors can view native butterflies up close and learn about the life stages and migratory patterns of these colorful insects. Butterfly House volunteers are available to point out the species of butterflies in the house that day, provide information on the insect's life cycle, and identify specific plants that are favored by each species. Inside the Butterfly House, there are nectar plants for food and host plants for egg-laying and caterpillar feeding. There are also touch boxes and information handouts on butterflies and moths. Outside the Butterfly House is a garden designed to attract butterflies.

The Malone Chamber of Commerce is now working with the NYS Office of Historic Preservation to establish an officially designated historic district in the village. This district would provide powerful tax credits for improvements and renovations without imposing any regulations or restrictions on property owners. The establishment of such a district will raise the profile of the area with prospective visitors and investors and help improve the ambiance of the village.

Dirty Dog Mud Run to be held at Titus Mountain October 19th!!
Malone, NY – May 27, 2013. The ever-growing sport of mud running and adventure racing has made its way to Malone, NY. Champlain Valley Search and Rescue Canine Unit plans to host the 1st Annual Dirty Dog Mud Run fundraiser at Titus Mountain Family Ski Center. The run consists of around 20 obstacles spread out over 7 kilometers up and down the lower mountain.
Champlain Valley Search and Rescue Canine Unit, or CVK9, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) K9 search and rescue team. They are specialized with the working dog and have support personnel to search for and rescue lost or missing persons. CVK9 also has an active technical rescue component to assist in land and water searches as well as natural or man-made disasters.
“We’re excited to implement a large-scale fundraiser to offset the costs of trainings, supplies, and equipment that CVK9 has to fund themselves. I’m excited that we can do this in a manner that is tied in with what we actually do—hike and climb and rappel—and it’s going to bring a really fun event to Malone that hasn’t been there before,” Brittany Taylor, fundraising chair for CVK9 states.
Obstacle races are growing in popularity and big name races like the Tough Mudder® and the Spartan® can be found throughout the country. Races are less “race” than they are “challenges,” as many runners help others through difficult obstacles such as wall climbs, ice baths, and barbed wire crawls. Ms. Taylor says that they are modeling the Dirty Dog after these races with hardcore obstacles but on a slightly smaller scale.
“CVK9 is the embodiment of people who want to help others. It is completely volunteer and we need to make sure that our members are fully trained to be ready for emergencies, which can be expensive. But at the end of the day it is a team effort, and we hope this message comes across during this mud run—people helping others,” said Chris Bresett, team leader and founder of CVK9.
The Dirty Dog Mud run is going to be held on October 19, 2013 at Titus Mountain Family Ski Center. This event is rain, shine, or sleet and registration is open now. Racers can compete individually or in teams. More information can be found at www.DirtyDogRun.com or on their Facebook page, Facebook.com/CVK9DirtyDog. Sponsors are also still welcome to help offset costs of setting up the race.

Business Spotlight of the Month!

The North Country Chamber of Commerce:
5/23/2013 - Economic Development Initiative
CHAMBER SUPPORTS GOVERNOR'S NEW ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE:
"This is another positive response by Governor Cuomo to the readiness of the North Country and other regions to help develop stronger economic development partnerships with our colleges and universities," states Garry Douglas, President of the North Country Chamber of Commerce and Co-Chair of the North Country Regional Economic Development Council. "That working partnership is already strong in our area which will position us well to take things to this next level of direct business development and attraction. Creative discussions are already underway with Clarkson University, and now we can foresee a real exploration of how, for example, we can more fully tap the Business School at SUNY Plattsburgh and the specialized training programs at Clinton Community College, and also look at how North Country Community College can be linked with opportunities in Saranac Lake, Malone and Ticonderoga. We thank the Governor for this exciting new toolbox and know that the North Country is very ready to use it well."

May 2013
Franklin County Chamber Alliance
Tupper Lake, Saranac Lake and Malone Chambers’ of Commerce, Franklin County’s largest business organization

The Franklin County Chamber Alliance is proud that as a result of our historic first time alliance between local Chambers, and our three year educational and political outreach effort has resulted in the passage, by the Franklin County Legislature of legislation that enables this county to leverage significant investment capital that will be overseen by a private sector board for the purpose of marketing this region’s greatest asset, tourism.

This legislation will result in a savings to local taxpayers and the opportunity to generate increased sales tax revenue, retail sales and employment opportunities and will help energize one of the economic drivers identified by the North Country Regional Economic Development Council.

The FCCA thanks the County legislature and the leadership of Chairman Billy Jones for the exhaustive research and study they devoted to this matter as well as the six public hearings held, in what has been one of the most public and transparent processes ever devoted to a single piece of legislation.

We also extend our thanks to the advisory committee of private citizens who devoted countless hours of their time and expertise to craft this outstanding legislation, and to the North Country Regional Economic Development Council for their affirmation and support.

Franklin County has taken a great stride today in investing in our future prosperity and the Franklin County Chamber Alliance is looking forward to assisting and supporting other opportunities going forward.
