Directions to Access Points:
Follow Route 30 south out of Malone and turn right on Route 458 to follow it west toward Santa Clara. Continue for around 10 miles, turn on Dexter Road and follow it to its end at Blue Mountain Road. Take a right on Blue Mountain Road to follow it south. Blue Mountain Road can be very rough, so take your time.
Continue down Blue Mountain Road for about 8.25 miles to a secondary dirt road that is not gated, on the left. Turn here and then turn right onto a narrow dirt road. This narrow dirt road is about 0.1 mile long and leads to a parking area.
There is a secondary launch on the south side of the pond about 0.3 mile further along Blue Mountain Road, but it's very wet and tough to get decent footing there. It could work for shore fishing.
Shoreline fishing is not too bad from either access site but dry, stable footing is not so easy and these are the only two spots that will work
Car top boat access only. This is truly the best option for fishing.
- Fish the deepest part of the pond in the summer, as the trout tend to move deeper.
- In the spring you can fish the top waters a bit and even fly fishing is a good option.
Fish Species Types:
Rainbow trout, brook trout
Always follow fishing regulations and be sure to pick up a New York State Freshwater Fishing Guide at your local outfitters or regional NYSDEC office.
