Three Unique Holiday Places

There are so many interesting places to shop in the Malone area, but three places stand out when it comes to the holiday season.

Whether you are looking for the right tree, a place where you can make your own gifts, or a museum shop that is rooted deep in the history of the country, I want to share these three special places.

Holiday central

What better place to find things for this time of year than a tree farm? A visit to the Northern Balsam Christmas Tree Farm can become a family tradition.

Free popcorn inside the barn.

This family run farm is the best place to get a fine, fresh tree. While picking out the perfect one, remember to look for more of the decorative greenery that is just right on a mantel or hanging on a door.

Balls of decorated flowers and greenery are known as kissing balls.

Swags and kissing balls fill the barn, along with interesting gifts and fun holday displays.

From trees to gifts and decorations, this is a holiday must-visit.

This festive tree farm is minutes away from Route 11, behind popular shopping destination The Market Barn. This is also a fine area for a scenic drive, too.

For a tree farm with a bit of everything for a fine winter holiday.

Don't miss it.

Gifts galore

Clay, Cloth, and Wood is both a gift store, and a DIY studio where people can paint their own ceramics for that special gift.

Plenty of gifts and special ceramics fill the store and the lesson space.

When I was a child, one of my friends had such a studio in her house, because her mother made her own ceramics. It is a very fond memory to recall painting the "greenware" and seeing what it looked like once it was "baked."

Clothing, gifts, and special decor.

There are rooms of uniquely crafted gifts other people have already made, available for sale.

Rooms of special merchandise.

There's a variety of musical instruments, jewelry, clothing, and a wide selection of fantasy and special interest gifts.

If someone wants a dragon under the tree, for instance.

For a whole range of tastes and interests, this is a great place to browse.

Traditional crafts

Go even further back for the holidays with a visit to the Akwesasne Cultural Center. This library, study center, and museum has one of my favorite gift shops.

How sweet this gift shop is.

Native artisans make a beautiful selection of jewelry, posters, mugs, books, music, and more. After browsing the museum exhibits, stop by for something special, for yourself or someone on your gift list.

Beautiful items from a long heritage in the North Country.

I picked up a pair of mugs with Akwesasne designs for myself and my husband, who is Abenaki on his father's side.

Baskets of every kind, from traditional to festive.

But anyone can enjoy a lovely basket or nature-themed gift.

May your holiday dreams come true.

This time of year is often a time of searching for the right gift or another way to make us feel in the holiday mood. These three special places are part of the spirit of Malone.

Share it with your family and friends this year.
